July 27, 2014
Grand Rapids Crew Juniors' W20 team lost an epic battle for the National Championship by a score of 4-3 in double overtime.
The team came from behind on two occasions in the match and found themselves leading by a goal with one minute remaining in regulation, before Michigan-based opponent PDA scored an equalizer of their own to force overtime.
The final, played in Bradenton, Florida, was the fourth time the teams have met this year with each team claiming two one-goal victories in the series.
"The girls played an unbelievable match and had a great summer season," said Coach Lewis Robinson. "This group of very talented players fought right until the final whistle. We did everything we could and their keeper came up with some huge saves to keep them in the game. They made the most of their chances and that's what the game is about at this level, small moments that change the game. This group has been a pleasure to work with all summer and we are very proud of their accomplishments."
