Remco Bergsma

Remco, a native of the Netherlands, has a rich history both as a player and as a coach. He played on the highest junior teams from ages 10 to 18 for AGOVV in the Netherlands. At age 18 he signed with the first team at AGOVV and played for semi professional soccer for 7 years.

He coached the U10 to U12 Boys team in 1998 and the U14 to U16 Boys team in 1999 for AGOVV. Remco was the assistant coach for the PDL West Michigan Edge team in 2005 and 2006, and he has been the assistant coach for both the varsity boys and girls soccer teams at Forest Hills Central High School from 2004 to 2007. He helped win two state championships for the FHC girls and one state championship for the FHC boys. Remco was also the assistant coach for the GRASA U18 team in 2007 which won a State Championship. In 2008 he coached the U14 Boys to a State Championship and a Regional Championship, and they ended up 3rd at the National Championships.

Remco’s current U16 Boys team is competing in the national league (MRL). Their record is outstanding, as they are one of the strongest U16 teams in the country (currently ranked # 1 in the state of Michigan, ranked # 1 in Region II, and # 1 in the nation).

As a result of winning the Regional Championship in 2008, the team was invited to play in the National League to play seven games against the best seven teams in the nation. They won 4 and tied 3 games and because of these results they won a direct birth to go to Lancaster, MA, in July of 2009 where they took third place.
