Steve brings a wealth of experience both as a player and as a coach. Steve played at Cornerstone University from 1998 until 2000 and was All-American Honorable Mention sweeper for the 2000 season. He also played for the West Michigan Edge from 1998 until 2000. Steve was the seventeenth overall Major League Soccer draft pick in 2001, chosen by the Colorado Rapids. Steve played for them from 2001 until 2003, and then he signed to play for the Columbus Crew in Columbus, Ohio. Steve played with the Crew until he retired in 2006.
Steve has much experience coaching in Western Michigan. He was the Assistant Coach for the West Michigan Edge in 2003, and he was also the Assistant Coach for Cornerstone University that year, helping to lead them to their first tournament championship. After retiring from the Columbus Crew, Steve returned to West Michigan and has been the Assistant Coach for Cornerstone ever since. He was also the Head Coach of the West Michigan Edge from 2007 until 2008.
Steve had a successful season as Head Coach of GR Crew Juniors’ U13 Boys’ Premier team. The team placed 2nd in the Memphis Blues City Blowout Invitational and placed 3rd in the Kalamazoo Crusader Cup. They finished 4th place overall in the MSPSP regular season, which is commendable for such a new team that had never played together until this past fall.
Steve currently coaches the u10 girls Black team and u14 boys Gold teams.
