Chris Hughes

In seven years as the head men's soccer coach at Calvin College, Chris has compiled an outstanding record.  His team has produced a record of 100-34-12 while capturing MIAA titles in 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2008, along with four trips to the NCAA III Tournament.  In addition, he served for eight years as Calvin's JV men's soccer coach with a record of 101-15-3.  In December 2004, Hughes was names Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year.

A native of Mt. Clemens, Michigan, and graduate of Lutheran North High School, Hughes was a four-year member of the Calvin men's soccer program and a two-time All-MIAA honoree.  As a back on defense, Hughes was named to the All-MIAA second team in 1989 and to the All-MIAA first team in 1990.  As a senior he helped anchor a Calvin defensive unit that allowed just six goals in 12 MIAA games on its way to a share of the MIAA title.

Prior to attending Calvin, he was a member of the German Sports Soccer Club and Sports Club 24 based in Mt. Clemens.  After graduating from Calvin he was a member of the Bill and Paul's Soccer Club for eight years.

His involvement with youth soccer includes coaching with AYSO from 2004 to 2007.  He was head coach with the GR Crew Jr. U10 A team for the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 seasons, including a Kalamazoo Crusader Cup Championship in 2009.  He was a co-coach with the GR Crew Jr. U8 Knights team for 2008-2009, also Kalamazoo Crusader Cup Champions and Finalist at the Indoor Nationals 2009.
