August 27 - 29, 2010: Grand Rapids Crew Cup - 1st Place
Our team won the U14G World Cup division with a victory over the Grand Rapids Crew U14 Silver team 2 -0; a tie with the Haslett Golden Stars team 2-2; we beat the Chicago Fire Jrs.-Daane 4 - 0; and finished with a victory over the North Storm 2 - 0. Great Job!
September 11 - 13, 2010: Capital Classic Tournament - 2nd Place
The team began the weekend with a victory over the Dewitt Panthers 2 - 0; we then defeated on the Red Arrows 7 - 0; another victory came against the Swarm Gold 97 3 - 0; we then faced Haslett once again in the finals, only to lose 2 - 1. Good effort ladies!
The Fall Season Begins...
September 19, 2010: vs. Haslett (once again)
The ladies began their regular fall season against Haslett. Despite many efforts to connect and score, the Golden Stars were victorious 2 - 0.
September 25, 2010: vs. USA - Blankespoor
Great game against USA at Helder Park. The first half was very competivite between both teams and remained scoreless. At the beginning of the second half, Erin Lannto was able to chip in a goal from an Emily Adams’ assist. USA quickly responded with a goal of their own. The game ended in a 1 - 1 tie.
October 10, 2010: vs. Tri-City Strikers
At sunny MVP, the first half included two goals for our team. The first was a shot by Emily Adams that went just over the goalie’s head. Minutes later, Sophie Blanchard scored on a similar shot to make the game 2 - 0. In the second half, Claire Aleck scored from an Anna Bremer assist to make it 3 - 0. Tri-City finally connected and scored late in the second half. The game ended with a score 3 - 1.
October 10, 2010: vs. B.C. Fire
Later in the afternoon, we played again. Despite having many opportunities to score by both teams, neither was able to get one in the net. This game ended in a 0 - 0 tie.
October 17, 2010: vs. Jaier
A difficult game all the way around. We lose 3 - 0.
October 22, 2010: vs. CATS
The Cats were able to score early in the first half to take the lead. It wasn’t until the middle of the second half that Calsee McLemore had a beautiful cross in front of the goal that connected with Claire Aleck. She sent the ball out to Anna Bremer, who was able to put it into the net for a score. The game ended in a 1 - 1 tie.
October 23, 2010: vs. Chicago Fire
In another tough game, the Fire came out and scored two goals early in the first half to take the lead. In the second half, Emily Adams was able to kick the ball and put it over the goalie’s head into the back of the net. This put the score at 2 -1. Despite other attempts to score by both teams, the game ended 2 -1 favoring the Fire.
October 30, 2010: vs. Portage (final game of the fall season)
Our first goal of the game came in the first half. Emily Adams headed the ball to Anna Bremer, who took the shot that raced past the goalie. Portage came back just before the half ended and scored, tieing the game 1 - 1. Late in the second half, Anne Dunbar was able to score off a shot by Anna Bremer, that was reflected off the goalie’s hands, just outside the net. Portage was unable to answer and we finished the season with a victory, 2 -1.
The Spring Season Begins...
April 16, 2011: vs. Jaier
On the worst possible day to play (with high winds and sleet), the team suffered through the difficult weather and a lost. Jaier won the game 4 - 0.
April 17, 2011: vs. Kalamazoo
Still dealing with strong winds, we came out of this game with a 0 - 0 tie.
April 23, 2011: vs. USA - Blankespoor
Hosting the USA team at MVP, we again had a 0 - 0 tie.
April 30 - May 1, 2011: Kalamazoo Crusader Cup Tournament
Our first game was against the Kalamazoo Kingdom (Keenan) team. We lost 2 - 0, however we were able to keep them scoreless in the first half and played much better as a team. We then faced a team from Canada, Kitchener Spirit 97. Our team played well again. We led at halftime 2 - 1. Calsee McLemore sent the ball towards the net where Emily Adams was able to kick it in for the first goal. Then Kristy Bos took a direct kick and put it right into the net for the next goal. However, the Canadian team fought back and we lost 3 - 2. As Coach Genevieve commented, "It was a hard lost." Finally, in our last game, we faced Jaier once again. This time, our team dominated the game and won 2 - 0. Calsee McLemore was able to put one by the goalkeeper (with an assist from Anna Bremer) right before halftime. In the second half, Anna Bremer once again crossed the ball in front of the net allowing Olive Bestrom to connect and score. It was great to watch the team get stronger with each game.
